Ward 14. Too hot in ward - no fans. Staff very busy in the ward and feel that they have too much to do with not enough resources. Don't know any of the nurses names as they have no name badges on. Nurses name written on whiteboard. Some patients can't see board. Staffing very stretched. No ward information given out and had to find out for myself what visiting times were. Domestics in the morning very good.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback to us about your recent stay in Ward 14.

Firstly, I would like to apologies that there were certain aspects of your care that you felt could be improved.

I appreciate that the recent hot weather does have a significant impact on the comfort of patients within the hospital and we do try to put measures in place to alleviate any discomfort. We will explore the possibility of additional fans within the area to improve patient comfort.

The hospital operates a flexible approach to visiting therefore we do not have set visiting times. We do have an information leaflet available for patients and relatives that provides details around this and I will feedback to the Senior Charge Nurse that you were not informed of the visiting arrangements and work to ensure all patients receive this information on admission.

I apologise that you felt the staff did not introduce themselves to you and you did not know their names. Again, I will feedback your comments to the Senior Charge Nurse and we will arrange for staff to have name badges that are visible and clear.

I am pleased to inform you that we have now put plans in place to have an additional member of staff on duty in the evening and I would hope this eases some of the pressures you have highlighted as a concern. We will continue to review ward staffing levels on a daily basis to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care.

I am sure the ward domestic will be delighted to hear of your compliments of her and I will ensure these are fed back.

Dear UHW4

Following your feedback we have now provided all the nursing staff with name badges. They will be worn on the staff uniform and are easy to read and identify staff name and job role.

We continue to support the ward with additional staff and review this regularly.

We are working to ensure information leaflets are available to all patients and visitors when they are first admitted to the ward. We hope this will ensure patients are fully aware of the visiting times and help with identifying staff on the ward.
