I attended the clinic today to have a number of blood samples taken, in line with my ongoing care.
At first, they struggled to find a suitable vein from which to take the sample. After numerous attempts, he had to admit defeat. Overly apologetic, so I explained to him that I used to be a Phlebotomist myself and that we all have our good and bad days.
One of the other Phlebotomists then had a go and again failed to get a sample on the first two attempts. Finally, they took a deep breath, found a suitable vein in the back of my right hand and ha-presto, the job was done and dusted.
We all had a really good laugh about it and I reassured them that they had always succeeded where the HCA, even one of the Qualified Nurse Practitioners, at my GP Practice always couldn't manage to get a sample at all.
I just want to thank both staff members for their pleasant manner and for making my visit as enjoyable as ever. There are a credit to the hospital staff.
"As enjoyable as ever"
