"Admission request by specialist"

About: Kettering General Hospital / Accident and emergency

My Mother in Law received a telephone call at 3.30 PM to say that she was to be admitted. She was told to report to A@E by 6pm. We duly arrived at A&E at 5.50 only to be shunted from one room to another for various observations for the next three hours. We were then informed that there was no bed available and that they would find a room to start fluids. As my Mother in Law is an insulin dependent diabetic, we informed the Doctor of this and that as she was told to be there by 6, she had not had time for her dinner and hadn't eaten since lunch time. The Doctor basically just shrugged his shoulders. I know A&E departments are under pressure, but the level of care and consideration of patients needs more attention.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.

I am very disappointed to hear that your experience of using our service was not as positive as it should have been; and I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to you and your mother in law on behalf of the department.

Your comments will be shared with the team, so as to raise awareness, and to ensure that there is continuous focus on improving the quality of care we provide to our service users.
