"Marsupilization of Bartholin Cyst"

About: Perth Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was instructed to arrive on the ward around 7am. I was met by a warm friendly staff nurse who showed me to my allocated bed. I was informed immediately that my notes hadn’t arrived and they were en-route, but that this was not an issue because I was fifth on the list. Despite my notes being late, staff were proactive and printed off a duplicate set so that they could complete my admission paperwork.

I was then seen by the SPR to the consultant who gave me a quick examination to check everything was ok for the procedure. He put me at ease and made me feel comfortable. I was seen by the anaesthetist who shook my hand and listened to my concerns, and again, put me at ease. I was seen by a different SPR who reviewed my physical health and checked over my admission paper work - he also informed me that I’d been moved to second on the list! I then met the Consultant who explained the procedure. This was very helpful, because I’d been fortunate enough (and very grateful) to receive a cancellation, and had never met the Consultant.

I was walked down to theatre by the ward clerk and a student nurse who were both warm and friendly, and they both distracted me from my anxiety. In the anaesthetic room I experienced more of the same before I woke up in recovery where I was fully supported through a tearful awakening (which is a bit embarrassing), before being taken back to the ward.

I can’t thank the women’s health staff at PRI enough. They were all fantastic and thoroughly organised.
