"Despite being busy, we were seen fairly quickly"

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital / Accident and emergency South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a relative),

I had to call the emergency service to my husband who lost consciousness.  The Ambulance call centre treated my call calmly, efficiently and with respect.

The paramedics who came in roughly 4 mins, were brilliant. Kate and Beth, I think, again calm, efficient, and with respect and caring humanity.

Despite being busy, we were seen fairly quickly and all the tests were done. The staff across the board were polite and considerate, displaying humour to lighten tension where it was useful to do so, and without being disrespectful.  I saw no irritation towards more difficult patients  We did have to wait to see the Dr and Consultant but obviously, we expected that in a busy A&E and my husband was by then in no danger.  The Dr and Consultant were reassuring and covered all possible outcomes.

However, I went upstairs to the toilet and almost every area was dirty.

If the cleaning staff is out-sourced to a private company then they should be ashamed of themselves

Thank you for taking the time to contact us following your experience with your husband, I was so pleased to learn that our staff made this time a little easier for you both.

I will, of course, share with our staff and I know they will be so grateful.

I am sorry, however, that you found areas of the hospital dirty, I will escalate these comments to the Director of Facilities & Estates.

Thank you again.

Best wishes to you both

Thank you very much for your kind comments about the service you received when you needed help for your husband. I can understand how worried you must have been about him and I was so pleased to read how calmly and efficiently your request for help was handled.

I know that the members of staff you spoke to will be pleased to read what you have said about the service they have provided and I would be grateful if you could contact us on pet@secamb.nhs.uk - telephone 0300 123 9242 - so that we can gather further information that will help us identify the members of staff concerned.

I do hope that your husband is now making good progress.

Very best wishes to you both.
