"Appalling care at the surgical assessment unit"

About: Russells Hall Hospital / General surgery

This is the second time in 4 months my daughter has been sent here by our gp , the last time we were here over 8 hours , she eventually had surgery 3 days later and We were told she would get a follow up appointment which We had to fight for through PALS. We are still waiting to see a doctor and we have been here over 6 hours so far. Communication is poor , you have to keep asking staff who are not keen to speak to you for updates and in the mean time my daughter sits here in agony , our dog gets better treatment at the vets ! And yes I will complain to PALS and probably go the local paper and they can print yet another story of the appalling care at Russell's Hall Hospital.

Thank you for taking the time to write in about your experience of the Surgical Assessment Unit at Russells Hall Hospital.

We aim to deliver the highest standards of care and are disappointed to learn this may not have been the case for your daughter. We would welcome the opportunity to understand more about the issues surrounding your recent visit to SAU and help to resolve your concerns.

We strongly encourage you to contact Patient Advice Liaison Service (PALS), as you have suggested so that the team can assist you further. They can be contacted by telephone 0800 073 0510 or by email dgft.pals@nhs.net
