"Great care"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I was booked to have an induction on my due date and as soon as I arrived on Rivelin ward I was put at ease by the lovely staff.

The induction process took three days and unfortunately due to the large amount of urgent cases I was waiting another two days for a space to become available on labour ward.

However during this time the staff were sensitive to how long I had been waiting and offered to move me to a single room. They were very sympathetic and supported me when I became a little disheartened at waiting so long.

Once on labour ward staff were unable to safely break my waters and I ended up being transferred to theatres for this as there was a concern about a cord prolapse and the possible need for a caesarean. It turned out this concern was valid and I did need an emergency caesarean but every step of this was explained to me.

Part way through it became apparent my epidural had not worked properly requiring me to have a general anaesthetic but staff acted quickly and calmly in putting me to sleep. When my baby was delivered he was purple and struggling to breathe but again, staff had anticipated this and so a consultant paediatrician was on hand and he was given oxygen before being handed to my partner.

Postnatally I was transferred to Norfolk ward and was cared for by more excellent midwives and breastfeeding support workers who took the time to advise and help with ways of feeding when my baby was reluctant to do so.

All in all I couldn’t be happier with the care I received during my eight day stay. All the staff - midwives, doctors, support workers, breastfeeding workers, and domestic and housekeeping staff were excellent and I felt very well looked after during my stay. I would definitely recommend Jessops as a birthing location.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby.

I was so pleased to hear after all the difficulties that you encountered that you had such a positive experience and that you felt so well looked after during your eight day stay.

I will pass on your kind words and compliments to the staff in the Jessop's Unit as they will be so pleased to receive your positive feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to post your story, as I know that having a new baby will be taking up a lot of your time - but so enjoyable.

Best wishes and kind regards
