"Rapid access chest pain clinic warning."

About: Conquest Hospital / Accident and emergency

taken into A&E by ambulance and after tests and X-ray told that I needed to be seen by the ‘Rapid access chest pain clinic and this should take place within two weeks of the A&E visit. A request was raised by my GP immediately. A month later received an appointment letter to attend a follow up cardiology appointment in outpatients dept. The appointment is two months after the A&E visit. I contacted the Cardiology department and was told that there were no appointments available at the rapid access clinic and they wouldn’t make an appointment. Is this because it would show a failure to meet ‘Rapid Access’ criteria ? In summary it will be two months since I was taken into A&E and still without an appointment with the so called rapid access clinic. Despite the fact that it was requested by their own cardiology personnel. I was referred to the patient liaison department who were closed but their telephone message system said that I should contact the cardiology department direct.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback about your recent episode of care at Conquest Hospital following admission via the Emergency Department; the Trust works hard to provide a high standard of care to all patients, and it is therefore disappointing to read this has not been your recent experience.

Please accept our apologies for the worry and distress this matter is causing you, as this is not what we would wish for any patient.

In order to see if we can help you further with an appointment in the Cardiology Department, we would encourage you to contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) as soon as possible. You can contact PALS on 01424 758090 between the hours of 8.30am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday – if you call and get the answerphone, please do leave your name and a contact telephone number and a member of the team will call you back as soon as they are able to.

We look forward to hearing from you shortly so that we can try and be of assistance to you. In the meantime, please stay safe and well and contact your GP or revisit the Emergency Department if necessary.
