"Psychosis"

About: Community Mental Health Teams / Early intervention in psychosis service (EIP) (Limbrick)

(as the patient),

I have a history of anxiety and depression, but following an unsettling episode, I met with my GP who reffered me to SHSC Early Intervention in Psychosis. I was worried that my mental health had deteriorated and felt comforted that I could be properly assessed. After the initial assessment, I was not diagnosed, and instead reffered back to IAPT services for counselling for anxiety, which would only be available in 2 months time. Since then, my mental health has continued to worsen; I have not been able to return to work, I have been removed from my volunteer position at a local charity and most days struggle to even leave the house unaccompanied. I feel that I have been failed by the services in question and have been a victim of the current government's NHS cuts. I fear that the damage has been done and that my life has been largely stunted at the age of only 20.

Dear Mr Jackson

Can I apologise for your experience, I am well aware of the frustrations that arise from having to share your story with different people that do not result in a clear outcome which is then compounded by waiting to receive services.

It difficult without more information for me to share details and a rationale about why the assessment at Early Intervention in Psychosis dis not lead to you being seen appropriate for our service, but would welcome discussing this with you if you feel it would be of use. If I have additional details I can also contact my colleagues in IAPT services in order to raise the issues of waiting times.

I can be reached on 0114 2718600
