I have a history of anxiety and depression, but following an unsettling episode, I met with my GP who reffered me to SHSC Early Intervention in Psychosis. I was worried that my mental health had deteriorated and felt comforted that I could be properly assessed. After the initial assessment, I was not diagnosed, and instead reffered back to IAPT services for counselling for anxiety, which would only be available in 2 months time. Since then, my mental health has continued to worsen; I have not been able to return to work, I have been removed from my volunteer position at a local charity and most days struggle to even leave the house unaccompanied. I feel that I have been failed by the services in question and have been a victim of the current government's NHS cuts. I fear that the damage has been done and that my life has been largely stunted at the age of only 20.
