"My daughter's life wouldn't have been possible without her"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Over 22 years ago at the age of 30 I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. My gp sent me to a new and up coming consultant Miss Williamson. Who in turn travelled with me from St Barts in London.

At St Barts I was one of the first patients to under go a new operation which took away my cervix and surrounding area, along with my lymp nodes. Preserving my womb and giving me a chance to still be a mother.

Unbeknown to all I was pregnant already and because of the surgery my daughter was born at 24 weeks (she is now 21 and at uni)

Miss Williamson and her team have continued to this day to give me regular check ups.

2 years ago I was suddenly taken ill again. Miss Williamson and her team again came to the rescue. Endless tests before more surgery. There was a big question mark asking if this was a return of the cancer. I was fortunate no trace of cancer was found. 2 weeks ago I was back hopefully for the last time. Fingers crossed just one more set of results and after all these years I can finally be discharged!

A massive thank you to miss Williamson for all the years of care. But even more importantly thank you for my daughter. Her life wouldn't have been possible without this wonderful lady xx

What wonderful feedback! Thank you very much for highlighting the positive difference our consultant Miss Williams has made to your life over the past 22 years as a patient first of St Bart’s and then our own hospital. It’s a pleasure to share your story and kind words with Miss Williams and her colleagues. We all send our best wishes to both you and your daughter.

I hope my story helps someone going through a similar experience or maybe gives someone else the push to go and get the smear test done.
