"Couldn't fault the staff but....."

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

I recently attended the ENT clinic and it was efficient, fast and friendly but I have one issue.

I had a small telescope put up my nose to examine my throat and in order to facilitate this an anaesthetic spray was used.

I thought the idea of this was to prevent any pain but although the examination lasted no more than 15-20 seconds I endured 24 hours of severe pain in my nose and across my face and streaming eyes. I would happily have undergone the examination without any anaesthetic in order to avoid this ordeal.

I really can't see why the spray was necessary at all for such a short exploration.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback regarding your experience in the ENT Suite. I am pleased to hear that the clinic staff were friendly and efficient.

I am sorry that you were distressed in anyway and although we do not use anaesthetic spray for all patients for this procedure some clinicians do use the spray.

I will relay your experience back to the team and look to improve the way we conduct this procedure in the future.

Kind regards

Gill Allen
