Came into the hospital last month with gallstones and a gallbladder infection. I've had 3 attendances with gallstones so I knew what to expect. I should say I've never had any problems with my care before.
The triage nurse in A&E was almost comically rude. I was so sore I hadn't the energy to comment, but they openly yawned twice during my 3 minute triage, picked their nails and had a conversation with a friend through the curtain throughout the whole process. "Have a seat til you get shouted" was the summary.
I didn't wait too long. I got a cannula put in and blood tests, and it wasn't that long til I saw the doctor, who was great. Antibiotics and painkillers and fluid helped.
My room was next to the nurses desk, so for 2 hours I heard every detail of their conversations - including those about other patients. I could hear the other nurse telling someone they couldn't do something for them because another staff member was away to the shops, and the two of them laughing how they can't go a whole shift without going out to the shops.
Not sure that's the best use of resources. My sisters are nurses and thought this was unbelievable.
Eventually 2 porters came and took me to the ward. They were very nice and polite. I then spent 4 days in the surgical arrival ward and the staff were great, but obviously really busy.
