My brother was sent to Pinderfields around Easter and was in gate 44 for six weeks.
He was experiencing pain in his abdomen and bloating.
After scans and x-Ray's it showed that he had a blockage and liquid seeping into his abdomen.
The scans also showed that he had cancer in his stomach region.
He had 6 litres of liquid drained from his abdomen and had his blood pressure, blood samples taken on a daily bases but no treatment apart from pain killers.
After approx 3 weeks he started to have problems opening his bowels and was given laxatives.
He also started to vomit and bring back any food and drink he was having so it was decided to but him on sips (drinking clear liquid, e.g. water).
He was on this for 9 days and lost that much wait that he was hardly recognisable, then it was decided he could have mash potato or custard.
He was told that the Oncology department would be in touch to discuss chemo.
He was discharged after 6 weeks and sent home.
He received a letter from oncology to attend for an appointment a week and a half after but within one week I had to call the ambulance to take him back to hospital, he was that week and almost collapsed on the floor, it was just lucky that I was there at the time to hold him up.
He has now been in Gate 34 Urology for 2 days and they are talking about sending him home again.
He is neither strong enough or capable of looking after himself in the condition he is in.
Nobody seems to want to take responsibility for him and the right hand doesn't seem to know what the left hand is doing.
One doctor will say take laxatives and another will say no and then another suggests an enema.
He is really so frustrated and is genuinely giving up the will to live.
"Gate 44 Gastroenterology - absolutely disgusting"
