"Maternity Assessment Unit"

About: Princess Royal University Hospital / Maternity

The reason I am leaving this feedback is as I had a poor experience with my recent visit to Maternity assessment unit. At 2:45pm, I arrived and registered my details with the receptionist. Waited until around an hour, asked when I can be seen. The response I got was that there are many people ahead of you and as soon as a bed is available you will be called in. During this time there were many other mums waiting outside to be seen, some were standing as there wasn’t enough chairs. 3.5 hours later at 6:15pm I was called in, the midwife asked a few questions and put me on the monitor which she said will be for 30 minutes. She came in between to check on me and did some checks. At 7:05pm, I called for the midwife as it had been nearly an hour I was on the monitor, a different midwife came and I asked her if everything is fine, can I go home? She replied and said let me call the midwife that was examining you. I waited then until 7:40 pm no one came, I rang the bell again and a different midwife came who quickly took me off the monitor asking if I got the reassurance about the baby movements. I was then discharged quickly within 15 minutes. I was wondering is there shortage of staff, beds, no respect of time for patients? I am now thinking how it will be in the labour room where people are giving birth, are they treated promptly and have I made a right decision to deliver my baby at PRU?
