"Over 11 years of MRI’s and CT’s"

About: Southmead Hospital / Neurology

Over 11 years of continual MRI’s, CT’s and three nerve root blocks, with months of waiting between appointments. Just to be told “they could see the problem and that I would need an MRI to confirm things”. 11 years of continual neck, shoulder and arm pain along with the headaches all caused by pinched nerves in my neck, I eventually had an operation to remove the bone trapping the nerve, well that didn’t work. Then the diagnosis changed to prolapsed disc’s and another endless round of MRI’s etc. I had an operation to fuse 2 vertebrae in my neck, that didn’t work either. I’ve still got all the same agony in fact worse than before. At the last appointment I had, the doctor told me he could see exactly the place where the problem was, he even pointed it out on the monitor, just one more MRI to confirm it, another eight weeks (or so) wait. At the very last appointment I was told in no uncertain terms that they would not be prepared to operate again. An appointment was made to see the pain clinic, another two months wait. The doctor in the pain clinic was aggressive and rude, stating that she did not know why neurology were sending all their cast offs to her and that there was nothing she could do for me. So here I am today, up to my eyeballs on Oramorph, codiene and paracetamol, willing but unable to work. And to think I was made medically retired from my job........ as a Maintenance Carpenter for the NHS. No, I would not recommend Neurology at Southmeade hospital.
