"Help with anxiety"

About: Hounslow IAPT

(as the patient),

I have suffered from severe anxiety all of my life but it was only when the physical symptoms of this became more serious that I decided I needed help.

So, I decided to receive therapy with IAPT.

Their sessions were always extremely welcoming and comforting and have really helped me. I had always thought that therapy would not really benefit me, but had heard many people say that it had surprised them and that I should give it a go.

So I did, and am happy that I did and wish I had done it sooner. It is great to have someone to talk to, who clearly, deeply understands what I am explaining to them and of how normal it really is.

Detailed analysis and reasoning was a prime focus, as was understanding why I feel like I do and the best best steps and mind settings to do / use going forward. My therapist (Monisha) was willing to aid me very closely all the way and made an obvious determined effort to help me.

I was not forced to do anything that I did not want to do, and was never made to feel awkward, daft or in the wrong in any way.

I feel I have improved noticably with social occasions and understand that it is still going to be a work in progress as I need to continue with what I have learnt in the therapy sessions, moving forward, to further improve and keep improving.

I am very grateful for the help and kindness and dedication that Monisha provided to me throughout all of my sessions. I can't personally think of any improvements that may be needed.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments.

Your journey from being apprehensive about therapy then having the courage to access the service and commitment to learning new skills throughout therapy is very inspiring. The same way your friends encouraged you to get help based on their experience, your feedback will encourage others to seek therapy.

Just this week we had our Team Away day and the staff reflected on the work they do to ensure they offer a high quality service. It was really clear that we all share the same vision to change people's lives and offer our very best to Hounslow residents. So I am really glad you've experienced this, and I will be sure to share your feedback with Monisha and the team.

As you mentioned, it is a 'work in progress' but continue to practise what you learnt in your sessions. You have already shown that you can make significant progress with dedication and hard work and are now your own therapist.

We wish you all the best for the future
