My son was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the same time as he started 6th form and just before his 17th birthday. He was treated in the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit (TCT) at University Wales Hospital, Heath, Cardiff. After 4 consecutive cycles of chemotherapy, followed by radiotherapy at Velindre Hospital, he was recently given the all clear.
This has been one of those experiences where you had to be there, no words live up to it. I just want to say a huge thank you to some of the people who were there - the staff at TCT, especially Dr Rowntree, Faye, Sara and Jenny.
Apart from successfully treating him, the unit and staff helped make it all a bit less overwhelming - they understood what a teenager with cancer needs, and also importantly, doesn't need ( e.g. being treated like a child or someone without a personality). The same goes for the staff at Velindre and all of the other services we came into contact with for biopsies, scans, emergencies etc.
Cheers all.
