My daughter was admitted to Crosshouse hospital in April 2019 with a corneal ulcer in her right eye. She had to get hourly eye drops for 48 hours followed by 2 hourly eye drops. We were told that she may lose the sight in her right eye as the ulcer was very severe.
My daughter and I were given a room on the paediatric ward and the staff came in every hour through the day and the night to administer the eye drops. It was relentless at the time and neither myself or my daughter got much sleep. The staff were absolutely amazing. Fantastic at dealing with my little girl and so compassionate towards me also. Every single member of staff in the paediatric ward was fantastic. My daughter looked forward to the cleaners coming in in the morning as they were so nice and friendly and the nursing staff were just brilliant.
We were discharged after 4 nights and we are absolutely delighted as her eye healed very well and although she has been left with permanent scarring her eye still has sight in it. I am so grateful to the nursing staff for being so committed and ensuring that she received every single drop that she needed. Without these staff I am sure that her eye would not have been so lucky.
"I am so grateful to the nursing staff"
