"An extremely helpful course for controlling my thoughts"

About: Hounslow Talking Therapies

(as the patient),

I used the service for OCD and controlling my intrusive thoughts. The service has been extremely helpful to me and I feel so better now after completing my therapy. Shivani was my therapist and I have to say she was brilliant and extremely helpful throughout the course. During the entire course, she was so encouraging that I always learnt something new in every sessions.

One of the best things about the therapy was from the beginning I was made to feel that having OCD does not make me any different person to others (which I always thought I was) and it’s just something that can easily be controlled. During the sessions, we went through practical experiments, written materials and was given proper logic for every solution.

Sometimes, I wonder why I didn’t take this course before, but better late than never. I am so thankful to NHS for providing these services and hope other people who have similar problems take benefit from these services.

Dear SS51

Thank you so much for your excellent feedback. We've shared your comments with Shivani and the managers at Hounslow IAPT service.

I am glad the sessions made you feel that OCD did not define you and to some extent your symptoms were normalised; rather it is the response to normal intrusions is what needs to change.

Clearly the therapeutic interventions really targeted your problems and you felt that you learnt something new in each session. It sounds like it was particularly helpful to use different types of therapeutic interventions ( e.g. written work and practical experiments).

I am happy that you took the courageous step to access therapy and are now experiencing the benefits of this. I must commend you for your hard work and continued commitment to therapy which must have been challenging at times.

I wish you all the best for the future.

Annabelle
