My father (79 this year) was rushed to Pinderfields hospital on Saturday afternoon (25th May 19) at around 4pm after suffering difficulty breathing. He suffers from a wide range of medical conditions including heart failure, kidney failure and emphysema. He was placed in the resus area in an open cubicle where he was given a mobile chest X-ray and had bloods taken. At the point this had been done it was around 7pm and he was told he would be admitted to a ward for further tests and treatment. He waited until 1am due to a shortage of beds and was admitted onto the assessment ward where we were told he was waiting to be seen by a cardiologist and would be having an echo cardiogram along with further blood tests etc. The hospital were told on three separate occasions, both in person and on the phone my father was diabetic and also all his required medication was listed and we found that he hadn’t had a single drink or bite to eat from arriving at 5pm until the following morning! The hospital have still not got his medication right and my mother had to take in his medication from home and give this to them. We were also told he would be released as he was doing much better, only to find he hasn’t even been seen by any doctor let alone a cardiologist!! He has been moved three times since Saturday and still no word on the cause of the breathing issues or any clarification on what is happening. He cannot he released as his legs are terribly swollen and he is full of fluid. He struggles to get to the toilet unaided and needs oxygen, yet the hospital are adamant he is fit to go home!! No doctor visit, no cardiologist and clearly no idea or communication which is an absolute disgrace! What happened to nursing and to caring for people?? The hospital is clearly just after the bed of a man who is far from fit to return home and seeing the state of the wards and the lack of staff and lack of care makes me ashamed of the NHS.
"Absolutely disgraceful ‘care’ and communication"
