"It was very frustrating"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / General surgery

(as a friend),

In 2019, my  relative was in here for a few weeks, I want to say some staff were very nice and hard working others I found not so nice especially and I felt some were hostile.  I felt that they run out of supplies constantly, they were taking things from other wards, always seemed short staffed and stressed.

My friend had a bag on, they ran out of ones that fitted my friend, they ran out of condoms to attaché the bag and at times the ones they used were too big so the bed got soaked and they would just say its too big but it will do we have nothing else, My friend was made to sleep sitting on a nappie all day which was very uncomfortable as they did not have bed mats, so I had to purchase these myself.

At times my friend did not get washed at all and at times not till 12 in the afternoon. We asked to speak to a Doctor on numerous occasions who didn't turn up, we have had mixed information regarding my friend's health and future, we asked to speak to Nurse ward manager which also proved to be difficult, who would give advice, advised us they would return later and never did, if we asked for anything they would say that they wont be long, back in 5 mins and we would never see them again.

Overall it was very frustrating to have a loved one in Larbert Hospital, what I saw of it seemed very shoddy run, no supplies, short staffed, the food is terrible, at times my friend never got much at all, and we found that some of the staff we encountered were, in my opinion, very hostile. We saw hardly any staff around at night, actually quite frightening, we put a transfer in to be moved to another hospital and thank god my friend got moved, if my friend has to stay in there any longer we would have taken my friend home for better care.
