"Nowadays even the rainy days seem so much brighter"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies)

(as the patient),

Life is like a car journey and sometimes it feels like you're driving with the breaks on!

After being stuck in a rut for a long time I finally sought help from Inclusion Thurrock and would like to share my journey of where I was and where I am now. The best way to describe my situation is by comparing it to a car.

So here goes ........
My car had always got me from A - B but as time went on it would often breakdown but I was able to fix it and keep driving until one day my car got stuck in some mud. Being an independent person, I tried desperately to sort the problem out on my own but no matter how hard I tried the rut just got deeper and deeper and I no longer had the strength to do it on my own but I wasn't ready to give up. I flagged down a passing driver who was kind enough to help me and together we were able to free my car up and get out of the rut.
That driver was my therapist Rebecca and I cannot thank her enough for how she helped me get back on the road to recovery. As I set off on my journey once again, reflecting on the events, instead of beating myself up for being a failure for getting stuck in the first place, I actually felt proud that I was able to find a way out of it and I realised that just because I'd asked for help it wasn't a sign of weakness.
Nowadays even the rainy days seem so much brighter.
Don't ever give up ............... YOU WILL FIND YOUR WAY.

Dear Miss Kitty

that's a lovely and very fitting analogy of resilience and the journey through life ( as well as through therapy!).

Its not that we don't have rainy days - we do. The difference is we don't dread them and they don't overwhelm us! We know we can cope as we have done before etc.

As you know some people say, very clearly, that its the very experience of struggling and finding good healthy solutions that has made them more confident and a more competent person.....

In your story, it sounds like your experience has made you more confident and balanced. More accepting of both yourself and the world.

Maybe you are also able to spot the potholes and muddy patches before you hit them and have the skills to avoid them at times too!?

Thank you so much for sharing your story with others who will, I know, gain much strength from your words.

From all the team at Inclusion Thurrock, thank you and happy, safe, fun driving...beep beep!!

Many Thanks

Paul
