"The Care of My Husband"

About: Ipswich Hospital / Clinical oncology

(as a relative),

Back in late 2017, my husband Dave was diagnosed with duodenal cancer. After an unsuccessful op at Addenbrookes he was put on palliative chemo. All the staff we encountered in the Woolverstone day unit were fantastic and very thorough. Specialist nurse Karen and support worker Kirsti were very informative and friendly, as were the oncologist doctors we saw.

Sadly, 2 weeks ago things suddenly took a turn for the worst and we had to say goodbye. In his last few hours, he was cared for by a nurse named Emma on the Brantham Ward and her colleague (I'm sorry I can't remember your name!). They both went above and beyond and made his last few hours the best they could. Emma explained to me the changes that were happening within Dave's body and really helped me cope with what was quite a traumatic experience.

Also, if it wasn't for the doctors, I wouldn't have had the chance to say goodbye at all.

Thank you for all the hard work and support you have provided over the last 16 months.

Thank you for leaving your kind words at this difficult time. I will make sure they are passed onto the teams on Woolverstone and Brantham ward. The staff will take comfort in reading that their action helped during this period. Many thanks
