"Lack of pre-appointment information"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

Had appointment at 0830 in area 4 for removal of catheter bag. Nowhere on the appointment form did it say that this procedure would take all morning. This information would be helpful as we had taken our dog in the car thinking that the appointment would have taken less time. My wife had to leave me at one point to let the dog out for toileting The other patient attending for similar procedure felt the same.

Another point that would be useful is to advise patients coming for prostrate or similar procedures to come with loose fitting trousers. I had come with denims. By the time I reached home on discharge my catheter bag was full and it was most difficult to remove my denims. Thought that I would have to cut the denim leg to remove trousers.

Another minor point is that a sign in the gents toilet between reception and clinic areas has a sign which is now partly covered by the hand towel container.

Once again thanks to everyone for making my stay a pleasant experience

Dear Scot Media

Many thanks for taking the time to get in touch. I was sorry to hear about the the lack of information prior to attending an appointment to have your catheter removed. We are currently in the process reviewing all the letters that are sent out to make them more patient focused and relevant and will take your comments on board when devising the new letters. An indication of time in department and suitable clothing are both excellent suggestions, I am sure will be of great benefit to other patients when attending the clinic..

I hope you are keeping well, and thanks again for your feedback.

Kindest regards

Many thanks for your response. I have just received a return appointment letter for urology this morning.

It is very detailed in listing things that I require to bring which is great but after my previous experience it does not say how long this appointment will last. It is a question I will ask when phoning to confirm my outpatient appointment.

kindest regards
