"My podiatrist appointment."

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Podiatry

(as the patient),

I received an appointment to attend the podiatry clinic. A few days before the appointment,it was cancelled and asked me to attend on the day after my original appointment at 11am. My sister dropped me off at the main entrance at 10 40am as she had to go shopping. Thinking all I had to do was walk in and find 'Podiatry' on the board .no joy.....no-one at the desk to ask, possibly because it was a Saturday. So I decided to go and look elsewhere,I walked and walked asking 3 different nurses who didn't seem to have a clue where it was either. As it was now 1105 decided to phone the number that was on the letter I received, asked the person at medical appointments to let podiatrist know I am in the hospital grounds and trying to find the place, and will be there asap ,and was told that they would let them know . Still wandering,I then asked a Porter if they had any idea where it was and he said I think it is the third building along at Lidls .It is now 11.20 by this time. Eventually got there at 11.30 to be told that they wouldn't see me as I was late and that I would get another appointment within the next 4 weeks  (by this time I am crying with the pain in my feet having walked round for 3/4 hour ) hence the podiatry appointment.

The girl said the next patient has got 4 minutes to get here or they wouldn't be taken either. I said if this patient doesn' turn up can you not take me and she said no. The patient then turned up, I said you better run, cause you have got 4 minutes to get there or you won't be taken either, coincidently this patient was late because they couldn' find the place either. I think your staff need to be a bit more tolerant with patients and drop what I felt was a couldn't care less attitude. I worked with the NHS for 18 years and would have never have spoken to anyone like that. Hope this matter is dealt with and never happens again
thankyou

Dear Ebeneerzer,

Firstly, I am sorry for the delay in responding to your post.

I am sorry to read about your experience at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is a very large site and not all services are located in the new building (e.g. WestMARC, Neurology and Maternity). I will contact my colleagues in Podiatry and ask if a directions leaflet can be sent with appointment letters to avoid this happening to anyone else.

I am sorry that you felt the staff member was intolerant. This is not how we expect our staff to treat patients and I apologise for the additional distress this caused.

If you haven’t received a new appointment yet, can you please contact:

0141 347 8909 (Monday - Friday 8am - 8pm) or email AHP.Appointments@ggc.scot.nhs.uk

Best wishes

Julie
