"dread ringing the surgery because of the ..."

About: Haworth Medical Practice

Firstly i would like to start this review with a positive, I have always found the doctors at this practice to be superb and have supported me through a difficult few years.Unfortunately i cannot say the same for the reception team. I absolutely dread having to ring the surgery for an enquiry or an appointment. Reception staff are difficult , unhelpful and have a really bad attitude. I have had numerous occasions to call the surgery just lately for simple blood test enquiries , etc each time i have been greeted with the same attitude, i have been spoken to like a child and have left the converation without any result. I have a condition where i am supposed to avoid stress and unfortunately dealing with this surgery can be very very stressful. I understand that the recptionists may have a difficult demanding job but their lack of humanity and respect for patients is shameful.Twice I have been refused appt as the receptionist decided i didnt need then hours later ended up in hospital for a week. After my recent dealings with the reception staff i told them i was un happy and i thought they were being purposely difficult .. i was answered with 'what are you acusing me of'..i asked for my comments to be passed on to the practice manager and i never hard anything back. I feel really let down by the surgery . I am not surprised that many people bypass the surgery and go straight to A&E. It is the old people and the ill people i feel for , i know from my experience when i was really ill the last thing i wanted to do was battle with a receptionist . I have never been demanding i simply expect to be treated with respect and empathy, surely these qualities should be absolutely necessary for this job. I doubt if there will be any changes , i know i am not the only one who feels this way. I really feel like changing practices but wonder if this is now the norm. I understand and dont mind giving the receptionists a brief description of my condition, however as i learnt at my cost the recptionists are NOT qualified to make these life threatening decisions. I really do hope for change in the future and people will stand their ground against the unhelpfulness and condescending attitudes
