"Waiting Times"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Neurology University Hospital Monklands / Neurology University Hospital Wishaw / Neurology

(as a service user),

My GP referred me to Neurology due to ongoing Neuro issues (unsure which hospital as yet to receive an appointment). This was over 12 weeks ago. I called to see where I was on the waiting list recently and advised that waiting times are currently around 40 odd weeks! Delay due to capacity issues. I understand that delays can happen but that's a 9 month waiting time! I am seriously having to consider going private but financially this would be an enormous challenge if at all possible. Can anyone tell me when these capacity issues will be resolved?

Dear DizzyLizzy29

Firstly may I apologise for your long wait. In line with national treatment time guarantees, we would always endeavour to have a patient appointed within 12 weeks of the GP referral. Unfortunately, due to a recognised national shortage of Neurology Doctors, our current waiting time is exceeding this at present. I can only apologise and assure you we are making our best efforts to rectify this.

If you could possibly contact our patient affairs department with your details on:

Telephone: 01355 585325

Email: PatientAffairs.Hairmyres@Lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

The patient affairs team can pass your details on to myself and I can have a look at the waiting list to give you an indication of when we can expect to appoint you to a Neurology clinic

Kind Regards

Hazel
