"Poor pathways leading to increased symptoms"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency Crosshouse Hospital / Ayrshire Doctor on Call (ADOC)

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

Attended appt with a relative, GP had requested specific clinical intervention, specific gender of staff requested

Was informed area does not have this gender available

AA does employ mix of clinical staff.

I feel this is a clear disregard of equality duty and that services not at all Joined up. In communication.

I feel the result was increased significant harm to my relative

Pushed from pillar to post

No responsibility taken by pharmacist ADOC GP

No access to any clinical assistance because it's the holiday weekend

I believe this to be incorrect

RTive feels pushed aside. Judged. Worthless

All their words

They have taken significant steps to access assistance

This has been refused

And as their relative my views have been disregarded

Dear Elle2,

I am responding as the Emergency Department has been tagged to your feedback. I am sorry that the care your relative received was not as we would have wished. I am sorry that your relative felt judged, pushed aside and worthless. We do not wish anyone to feel like that.

I note that your relative requested a specific gender of staff to review them. You are quite right that we employ a mix of clinical staff however there are certain shifts e.g. nightshifts when there are only 2 or 3 doctors on a shift where all the doctors may be male or indeed female. This would however be a rare occurrence. It is difficult to know exactly what went on on this occasion without more details.

I am concerned that your relative requires assistance and wonder whether we can do anything to help with this. I am not in the office tomorrow however, if you feel able you could speak with our patient feedback manager Eunice Goodwin on 01563 826222 and she may be able to help. If you feel that this is an issue that requires urgent attention then you can receive medical help and advice out of GP working hours by phoning freephone 111.

Claire
