I attended Fal ward for a planned operation to remove an ovarian cyst.
Although in my 60s, this was my first admittance to a hospital, so I was very apprehensive.
My husband died in this hospital, so I knew it would bring back painful memories.
There were a lot of staff who needed to see me in the process from reception through to consultant and every single one of them filled me with calmness and confidence.
They all treated me as an individual person (not just another patient on the conveyor belt) and genuinely cared about me.
The consultant involved me in decision making and gave me all the information I needed to make decisions. He was so down to earth and friendly.
The staff were all very efficient and although working to a tight schedule, they never rushed me.
This is an amazing team of people, I can't thank them enough for making this a positive experience for me.
There is just one recommendation I would like to give - the booklet I was given to take home states that in recovering from an operation, most people get back to normal levels of activity fairly quickly.
I would suggest that this applies to the younger generations.
Once you are in your 60s, healing takes a great deal longer.
This piece of information was misleading for me and I went back to work too early, which set me back and made me feel very ill. (A useful education for the future, but could have been avoided with more appropriate guidance).
You are a brilliant team of people and I am left with a warm feeling that there are such lovely people in this world.
Thank you so much xxx
