My 1 year old daughter requires surgery every 3-4 weeks due to a condition that effects her ability to eat. Her consultant gave us points of contact to call if we have any concerns or feel she requires surgical intervention sooner than the 4 weeks planned.
These avenues of contact are useless as we constantly hit a brick wall both with the secretary and waiting list coordinator. We never receive letters for these scheduled procedures and have to constantly chase for appointment and operation dates (sometimes giving us less that 24 hours notice for procedures that were planned 4 weeks in advance).
Below is one of the recent examples of the poor organisation and communication after our daughter has been unable to eat anything but puree for the last few weeks and we feel she needed surgical intervention sooner.
Thursday - Contacted our consultants secretary and promised a call back that day from themselves or the registrar from the surgical team. No call back received.
Friday - No call back received.
Saturday - No call back received.
Sunday - No call back received.
Monday - After not receiving any call back, I decided to try the waiting list coordinator to try to find out what date our daughters operation is as it is due next week and we've not had any letter or any form of communication. No date given over the phone, only advised that they would contact our consultant to confirm. Also told I would get a call back the same day. No call back received.
Tuesday - No call back received, No letter received.
This is unacceptable as it seems like people with no medical knowledge are effectively causing children unnecessary suffering by their lack of organisation.
"Lack of communication"
