My husband was admitted to A&E at Royal Liverpool this week after he collapsed. I spoke to the ambulance man and told him of his medical conditions and set off on a 2½hrs drive to be with him as he'd been up there working. When I arrived he was on a trolly in a corridor I approached someone, told them I had arrived and would the Dr want to see his medical letters I had. I was told there was 6 other patients to be seen before him. I asked if they were aware of his medical history and was told yes I also asked if he could have some pain relief. 4hrs of being in the corridor he was moved to a cubical and was told the Dr would be with us & the curtain was pulled shut and I again asked for some pain relief. 1½hrs later the Dr came to see him I asked if she was aware of his medical history and she said no. Nearly 6 hrs after being admitted he had an urgent scan and the pain relief I'd been requesting. He finally went to sleep and I went on the hunt for a drink. I was told there was a cold drinks vending machine I asked if they could make me a cup of tea and was told no as I wasn't a patient. I asked later if they had a shop or somewhere to get a hot drink and was told there was a greggs across the road.
I am shocked at disappointed at how my husband was treated in hospital. I offered medical information when I arrived and asked for pain relief that took over 3 hrs to get. He wasn't once approached by any staff to check on him and I was more than relieved when he was discharged. I found the hospital old and tired and more concerning I saw blood over the toilet floor which I reported and was still there when we left.
As a fellow health care professional I wouldn't dream of treating patients or relatives like this and makes me extremely upset to think about what's happened.
