My husband began his first couple of sessions of chemo in mid March he had diarrhoea pretty badly, on phoning The Beatson we were told to take him to A&E RAH, they sent him home saying they do not give tablets to stop it but what to buy, a few days later he was again taken to A&E this time by ambulance still with diarrhoea from chemo....they gave us tablets doctor said he really couldn’t do anything as we needed a specialist....sent home again!
Two days later, call out doctor sent for an ambulance....result my husband had sepsis! doctor on duty knew her stuff was very quick to deal with the situation, my husband was in hospital for 6 days the attention he received was terrific and can’t thank them enough........but! If he had been admitted two days before and put on a drip both for hydration and antibiotics I feel this could have been avoided, as we have another 5 rounds of chemo to go it’s understandable I will be apprehensive about this in future, also have the web page on my phone describing symptoms if I ever have to do this again
