"Staff in the day case unit were so kind"

About: Tiverton and District Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I was booked in for a minor surgical operation which required a light anaesthetic. I live in Tiverton and was hugely impressed by our local hospital. I arrived at 7.30am having left home at 7.20am and parked easily. The staff in the day case unit were so kind, nothing was too much trouble and they had plenty of time to give me. There was a lovely, clean, comfortable, relaxing waiting room with a fish tank. The whole place was clean and fresh looking. After the procedure and as soon as the local anaesthetic had worn off, I was given a cup of tea and a sandwich. I was then seen by the doctor who carried out the procedure and was free to go home by 10.30 am. I only had to stay longer as I was waiting for a lift home! However, I was made to feel very welcome and was able to stay in the bed until I felt ready to get dressed.

I would highly recommend using this hospital rather than travelling to one of the larger centres.

My only critisism would be that, having been asked to arrive at 7.30am, I found the reception desk shut and there was no obvious signage to the Day Case Unit. I therefore had to wonder around until I found someone to ask where to go.

Thank you so much for your very positive feedback about your experience at the Tiverton Daycase Unit.

I have spoken with the Matron in relation to your very helpful suggestion about signage for those patients arriving at 7.30 a.m. and would like to let you know that there is now a sign in the reception window that indicates patients should proceed to the Nurses bay when reception is closed or admin clerk is out of the office.
