I have a letter from Talking Therapies, Parkgate, with this contact number to give feedback about my experience.
I self referred, took about six weeks until I eventually got a call back. I went through a 45 minute very difficult phone call, it took time and was hard to get through- I find it difficult to open up to a complete stranger.
Later on, the person who took my call rang me again, and said none of that had gone into the system, and I had to go through that whole difficult process all over again. It was hard, while looking after my three year old, and I felt that they were not understanding of my situation, it was like they just wanted me to say it all quicker so they could move on.
Its now been another three weeks, and I've just got this letter through saying I have got a referral for four months time. I have another child due in four months time, I'm not going to have time to attend any sort of therapy by then, the whole thing seems pointless to me.
The thing is, In the job that I do, I encounter so many people with mental health problems, and I often suggest they should speak to Talking Therapies. People have said to me that they don't have confidence in it as a service, and I'd always tell them to give it a go, how could they know that the service won't help them unless they try it?
Well now I know. And I feel bad for all those people I gave poor advice to.
It seems to me that there is just no help. Unless you actively want to kill yourself, and you're shouting from the rooftops. Short contact with long time in between, its like they are offering such a limited and inconvenient service just to make people seek help elsewhere instead.
