"My daughter and her young child"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Clinical Oncology

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughters gp put in an urgent referral to the breast team and was told she would be seen within 2 weeks. One breast has a large lump that has caused the breast to double in size with nipple discharge and enlarged nodes under arm. The other breast has 3 distinct lumps that are growing as I compose this email.

We are now being told without any examination that she will have to wait 12 weeks !!!!!

Frankly this disgusts us and as a family we are very concerned not only about our daughters physical health but her mental health also.

I myself was seen last year in December within 4 weeks as a non urgent referral.

My daughter is 23 she has her whole life ahead of her and as a single parent is the main stability in her child's life.

I know so many other mums who have lost their young daughters to this disease, I don’t want my daughter too be another one.

I urge that something is done ASAP for my daughter before it is too late.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear All we want is to be seen ASAP,

I am so sorry about the wait and the distress this is causing you all. I can't say anything that will help to take that away. It is not only stressful but scary to be waiting.

I do have some thoughts and I wonder if you would like to call me on 01563 826222 so we can have a chat about this.

Kindest regards,

Eunice

Dear All we want is to be seen ASAP,

Thank you so much for contacting me off-line. We had a great chat and we have 'fixed' the world. You must both be very relieved that your daughter has now been seen at the clinic.

You raised a few points with me. I promise to do the homework you gave me, you have to do yours too (you know what I mean).

Take care, look after yourselves.

Best wishes,

Eunice
