"Staff not paid enough to do their job"

About: East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency Lincoln County Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

On a Sunday at the end of March 2019 I woke up feeling a bit poorly, I had a serious pain in the left side of my head going down to my jaw and neck, it got worse as time went on and the pain then went down my left arm, it felt like a dull ache. I then called 111 and they sent an ambulance within 10 minutes. At that point my sats were ok but they advised me to go to hospital with them to get checked out. When I arrived the ambulance crew said that I would get seen quicker if I waited in A&E waiting area.

They pushed my through in a wheelchair and I waited, I was seen by a nurse first, they also did my sats and they were ok at that time. I went back into the waiting room but within 10 minutes of waiting. I became very unwell, with very severe pain in my chest and down the whole left side of my body an left arm. I was rushed through to the A&E and put on a machine. Everybody involved during that time was amazing. I can not thank them enough for there speedy response and care. I was taken to theatre within 40 minutes but felt like a life time. I was given morphine to help with the pain, but it was still very intense. I was met by more wonderful people who prepared me for surgery.

My surgeon was amazing, he gave me the angioplasty procedure and fitted with two stents in my artery. I had a blocked artery which caused my heart attack. My procedure took about 1 hour, after which I had a chest x ray, I was then taken to coronary care unit after. I felt a lot better at this point but I was very poorly. In coronary care I had a night shift nurse called Bec, she was absolutely amazing, an Angel sent from heaven, she was so kind and caring and she played a very big part of saving my life, I just cannot thank her enough for everything she did for me throughout that night. Also during that night I had a lady doctor visit me as I was still having the pain in my arm, she was so sweet an caring I wish to thank her too but I don't remember her name.

My care continued in the coronary care unit that morning where I was monitored the whole time. I was not allowed out of bed till dinner time that day after lovely  doctors visited me during ward round, I had to have a heart scan to check everything was working ok and then I was moved to the other side of coronary care were I was allowed to move about. Every member of staff in the coronary care unit including the dinner an tea ladies were completely amazing, friendly and kind. They all played a very big part of saving my life and getting me well. I was allowed to go home on the Tuesday evening. It is very early days and I am still recovering. I have already said it in my story but to the bottom of my heart I have to thank every body from the lady on the 111 phone call, the ambulance crew, to every one involved in saving my life an caring for me. They are not paid enough for the job they do in my opinion .
