"Local nurse at GP surgery and her excellent care"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as the patient),

Last year I had a lot of diabetic related problems and really struggled to get an appointment with my GP at Oaklodge Hamilton. Eventually out of frustration and feeling exasperated with it all I asked for an appointment with the nurse.

This was the first time I had been seen by nurse Deignan and she was absolutely brilliant. She made time to discuss all my issues and examine me. She was able to arrange for a much needed prescription and took time to explain my problems and how best to deal with them. She is so friendly and easy to talk to and makes you feel as if you are her only patient. As a diabetic I regularly need blood tests and every single time is a nightmare as the staff always seem to struggle to get blood out of me! Well, I can honestly say that nurse Deignan definitely proved to be the best experience I have ever had for blood tests. So much so that I now dread having to see anyone else for blood tests. I have seen her several times since that first visit and she has always been great. I went yesterday again for more blood tests and again she was terrific. She knew how excited I was about the blood test this time as I had been really good and changed my eating habits (mainly due to my visits with her and her encouragement) She actually went out of her way today to phone me at lunchtime with my results. I really can't thank her enough for all her help.

Dear Oncloud9,

Thank you for taking the time to share you experience through Care Opinion.

I can assure you that nothing is more gratifying for healthcare staff than hearing about the positive impact that they have on the people they are providing care and services for. I'm sure nurse Deighan will be delighted to hear how much you value her professionalism, care and compassion and that her input is helping you to make and sustain lifestyle changes that will help manage your condition, which is fantastic!

Nurse Deighan is employed by the Oaklodge Practice rather than NHS Lanarkshire, but I'll ensure that your feedback gets to her via the Practice Manager.

I wish you well with the ongoing management of your condition.

Kind regards

Rick
