"A wonderful home birth experience"

About: Mid Argyll Community Hospital and Integrated Care / Maternity/Midwifery

(as a service user),

I had an amazing experience with the help and guidance of the wonderful midwives at the mid Argyll Hospital in Lochgilphead. I was able to have a relaxed home birth with my family around me with the help and support of my brilliant midwife Brenda.

Brenda along with the rest of the team took such great care of us throughout my pregnancy. As it was my 3rd child I was keen to have a home birth. Brenda answered all my questions and helped us prepare for the birth. She helped me find out about birthing pools and everything we would need to prepare for a birth at home. We felt completely supported by the team at Lochgilphead to help us have the birth we wanted and with their support we were able to feel very comfortable and excited.

During the birth Brenda and Donna were amazing. Brenda (who was my midwife at the birth of my second child) allowed me to progress through labour as I wanted to. She was incredibly supportive and encouraging and helped my family feel involved and part of a very special moment. My partner, mum and eldest son were there as I had wanted and they felt calm and relaxed just as I did. The atmosphere was great I felt totally relaxed and confident.

Thanks to the help and support of our amazing midwife Brenda and the team at Lochgilphead we were able to have a wonderful home birth experience. We feel extremely lucky to have been able to bring our son into the world at home surrounded by our loving family. Our eldest son was able to be a part of the experience which he will never forget. Brenda helped him to feel included and she explained to him what was going on so that he felt totally relaxed. He was able to have skin to skin time with the baby after my partner and I which was a really special moment.

My mum was also present and Brenda also encouraged her to be involved as she knew this was important to me. It was so special to have her there and I’m so grateful that she was able to support us through the labour while also looking after the kids.

From start to finish the care, help and support we have received from all the maternity staff at the mid Argyll hospital has been outstanding. The midwives are so caring and supportive and we feel so lucky to have been able to have done things the way we wanted to. The care and support we received from Brenda was wonderful and we are truly grateful for everything she has done.
