"Impossible to get through on the telephone"

About: University Hospital Lewisham / Neurology

I have been trying and trying to get through to someone in neurology for some test results, without success. The operator transferred me through to some answerphone for someone, as if it were a personal voicemail rather than a proper departmental answering machine, and there was no mention in this message of an alternative extension number to call. Rather unprofessional! Then I tried again by searching the NHS website, dialling the extension number listed - and I got put through again to this secretary or PA. What a joke!

It's a shame, because the neurologist I saw for my appointment was excellent - but a locum, I gather. It would seem the admin and comms side of Lewisham hospital is a bit of a shambles, even if the medical staff are very good.

I guess I'll wait a month for some letter to come through. I was asked to call, but it would seem my only option is perhaps telepathy!

I am very sorry this has been a poor experience for you. The direct number patients are given and use to contact Neurology is 020 3192 6215. There is an answerphone and patients do leave a message which the medical secretary does then address.

If this is the number you tried and you would rather not use it again please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 020 8333 3355 or pals.lewisham@nhs.net with your details and we can then follow up test results and letters.

kind regards
