Neurology , Waiting times

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurosurgery (Ward 64 – 66)

(as the patient),

After seeing Dr Jack, who was wonderful, following ongoing neuro symptoms. I was referred on to another neurologist within the team. I have undergone MRI SPINE/BRAIN both with results that are concerning. I called today to be informed that the waiting list is 30 weeks. This is unacceptable, as a healthcare professional myself I find it very hard to digest that we expect patients to wait this long with worry about what their diagnosis may be. I myself, am now considering going private. What is being done about these waiting times? Not just for me in my case but for all others too who are awaiting to be seen?

I am sorry about the length of wait for your appointment. Unfortunately, due to ongoing capacity issues and the high volume of patients being referred, we are experiencing difficulties with our waiting times.

We would like to reassure you that we are in the process of reviewing all cases to ensure patients on the waiting list are offered a suitable date as quickly as possible and that we are doing everything possible to arrange additional activity to accommodate patients who are experiencing delays in treatment.
