"Emergency -"

About: Northwick Park Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as the patient),

I came to emergency because of a sinusite I had since two weeks and which was degenerating. I waited for four hours. I have found the doctor who received me highly incompetent in terms of medical protocol and rude in terms of professional behaviour.

A sinusite requires a scan and a blood test to see where it takes place and if the white cells are low. Without this procedure you can't be sure of the adequate treatment. The Dr I saw didn't proceed to any serious examination, nor informed me further about the next possible steps. They acted as if they were superior to the patient and didn't take time to communicate. As a result, the diagnostic seemed a complete failure. I was 5 minutes in the office and was being showed the way out as I tried to ask about other details.

My situation became worse and two days after my coming to the emergency, I had to take a plane to France to be treated correctly there. In only four hours I have got a scann, a blood test, and the confirmation of my health situation. I have a mononucleosis, coupled with ear infection, viral sore throat, and a maxillary sinusitis. The Dr I saw in England has behaved highly unprofessionally. They didnt do the right examination and didnt explain the possible consequences of my issue. Didnt see the ear infection nor the place of the sinus infection nor the throat sore.

I had the chance to have the money to go back to a country where I have been treated in the proper medical way. I want to ask, what about those who can't ? I must repeat it, in four hours I got everything I needed in France.

An incompetent doctor is not a doctor anymore, but a parody of it. And no, I don't want to let my health have a role in a comic play. I am highly disappointed about the British healthcare.

I definitely won't come back to this hospital.

Dear Appolonia,

I am sorry to hear of your frustrations when your visited our Emergency Department. I am glad to hear you have a clear diagnosis and hope you are on the road to recovery.

If you would like us to follow this up on your behalf, please contact the PALS team on 0208 869 5118 or LNWH-tr.PALS@nhs.net. It would help us to know which clinic you attended.

Yes I have indeed a clear diagnostic, given in France by a french practitioner.

Not everybody can allow himself to go abroad for health issues ...

There is a huge gap in the quality of health services between, despite your strong efforts in communication.

I understand you are not responsible for a system which is not patient-friendly, and lacks of money, but I am sure the medical staff could improve in its capacity to deliver diagnostic + medication.

Again, the antibiotic given to me was completely irrelevant, even dangerous in the case of an Epstein-Barr (Mononucleosis) contamination. A serious investigation should have led the doctor to look for possible causes (trough a blood test), or at least explained to me the lack of information.

I attended Northwick Park Hospital, Accident and emergency services.
