"Extremely rude receptionist and NO confidentiality"

About: Ragstone Road Surgery

Reception staff extremely rude and unsympathetic. I called at 8am today and after 22 attempts got through at 8.09 to be told that there are no appointments today. Also I think it is highly inappropriate that your staff demand for a reason for the appointment, they have 0 medical training and no reason to need to know why. I asked her to put personal for which she said this is clearly not an emergency so you wouldn’t get an appointment anyway and argued and shouted that she didn’t even think a call back was appropriate.

I called a few days earlier for an appointment regarding mental health and told the receptionist in confidence something to try and get her to understand the urgency of why I wanted to see my regular GP. However still was not able to get an appointment with him for 7 weeks. I then get a phone call from the practice manager saying if I don’t see another GP she will call an ambulance and police. I think it is disgusting that you even suggest this, mental health is hard enough to get the confidence to seek medical help and now twice I have tried and both times have been treated with no respect, kindness or dignity.

The standard of this practice is absolutely awful and the only decent qualities of the practice is one staff nurse and one decent GP. I think a lot of your staff need some training on how to deal with patients appropriately as the training you often refer to in numerous other complaints about your reception staff (clearly this is something you need to address).

Whenever you put in a complaint if it makes it to the practice manager (often see reception staff throw them in the bin when they know it is about them) you get what is clearly an automated response and the problems are never resolved.

Dear Patient

I am very sorry to read your comments with regards to your treatment at the Practice. Reception staff do NOT have medical training but they ask the reason for an appointment so that they can either signpost you to the right service , or can even allocate a longer appointment if the patient is severely unwell etc. Routine appointments can be made in advance and we also offer Online appointment bookings which may be helpful for you. For this we ask for you to attend the Surgery with proof of your identity, or alternatively you can even sign up to the new NHS app. Staff however are routinely trained in managing patients in many situations. Can I urge you that should you have a problem or concern in the future that you email us on eastberksccg.ragstoneroad@nhs.net marked for the attention of Diane Parrott , the Practice Manager and I would like to assure you that your concerns will be noted and actioned .
