"Visit to A and E"

About: Medway Community Healthcare / Medway on Call Care (MedOCC) Medway Maritime Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

After waking in the early hours with a fast heart beat my husband took me to A and E where it was thankfully empty in triage, more or less called straight in for an ECG which was ok, but I was made to feel maybe this wasn't an emergency but to a patient who has a history of these lately it is very scary, was sent round MedOCC where there some very sick people who maybe should not have even been there who's care was more complex, I saw a GP after 3 hours only to be told see your own GP, when it is out of hours sometimes it is reassurance when you cannot get to your own GP, as I write this I still have symptoms but feel I have to suffer in silence until I can see my own GP

Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to learn that despite assessing your symptoms you did not receive the reassurance you needed at this understandably worrying time.

We will bring your comments to the attention of the Emergency Department senior team and also with Medway Community Healthcare, the organisation who manages MedOCC.

Patients who are worried about their immediate symptoms should not feel reticent to attend the Emergency Department to seek assessment or care, and they may be signposted to another NHS provider if the Emergency Department is not the place where they need to be. Please do seek medical help, either from your GP, MedOCC, ED or a walk in centre if you are worried.

kindest regards,

The Patient Experience Team
