I attended ward 68 today for a lumbar puncture. The staff were welcoming. The doctor performing my procedure was excellent. He was thorough in his explanation, listened to me and answered all my questions and importantly he was compassionate and made me feel at ease. Unfortunately I can’t remember his name but he was a young doctor from Ireland. The nursing staff were also friendly and attentive.
I would like to highlight a concern though. I was asked about my medical history, medications and personal details by nursing staff in a waiting room with other patients sat next to me. There was no privacy and this is something that should be addressed. As a NHS HCP myself, I am fully aware of the importance of patient confidentiality and that isn’t acceptable. The ward was clean and tidy but not having the facility to lay down after the procedure was disappointing. I was sore and tired and uncomfortable seated in a waiting room for 2 hours. I appreciate not all patients may feel discomfort but for myself I would have benefited from this today. This is something to consider for future patients?
Please pass on my sincere thanks to the staff involved in my procedure today.
