"Successful Eyesight Surgery"

About: New Cross Hospital / Accident and emergency Wolverhampton and Midland Eye Infirmary / Ophthalmology

(as a service user),

I have been a member of the staff within the NHS for nearly 20 years and never needed a hospital service myself .

I felt very apprehensive about being on the patient side for once when last month I attended the ED department at Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust after suffering a change in my vision.
I had a little wait to see the  ED eye nurse who at once made me feel at ease. After being seen I quickly got a appointment in the A and E department at the eye infirmary. Once there I again had a wait but then this is an emergency department so to be expected. 
I then got seen by DR Alice( sorry didn’t get surname) who did a thorough examination. 
Within an hour I was diagnosed with a detached retina was seen by the consultant on take, was consented and was waiting on the Mary Jones for surgery.
 The treatment I received during my stay was second to none. There are too many criticisms of the NHS but I feel I cannot fault this service. 
The ward was very clean and tidy and staff very attentive to my needs. I would like to say a special thank you to Mr Caruana and his team especially the theatre staff who held my hand during my surgery in theatre 2 on that day.
Thank you to our NHS staff you all do an amazing job !!!!
