"My son's short stay in NSECH"

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

We were advised to go into NSECH hospital to get our 9 week old baby checked as he had a temp of 38.1 and was unwell.

The staff were amazing from the minute we got there. It was a very scary time for me and my husband as they actually thought it could be sepsis or meningitis. They took us straight into our own room after 10 mins of being in the hospital and explained everything to us right from the start. We had to stay in overnight as he had to be given antibiotics. The consultant and nurses we had looking after my baby were really friendly and helped me get through this tough time as my husband had to go home for our other children. We were allowed home after a night but had to return daily for antibiotics.

We were thankful tests came back ok and it was actually a viral infection. But the consultant made the decision to start antibiotics as my baby deteriorated and his temp spiked to 39.3. I have been to hospital a few times over the past 5 years with my children but this was the best care we had received. Normally we are left wondering what is going on but not this time. As a parent you need to know what is happening to your child even if it is scary news.

I would just like to thank the staff at NSECH childrens short stay unit for everything they did for us.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am sorry to read that your 9 week old baby boy was so unwell recently. It is great to know we were able to get to the bottom of his high temperatures and give you and your husband some reassurance. I can imagine it was a really frightening time for you both. Hope your wee one is well on the mend I bet your other children were also pleased to have their brother home safe and sound.

We will share your review with your our team on The Children’s ward at The Northumbria hospital. They will be very grateful that you found the time to share your experience, not always easy to do when you have small children at home so thank you very much.

Should you need any further advice or support from us in the future please don’t hesitate to come back to us.

Kind regards to you and your little ones,

Annie
