"Excellent care of our 4 year old son"

About: Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital / Accident & Emergency (Emergency Care)

(as a parent/guardian),

During nursery our 4 year old son swallowed what turned out to be a pound coin which became stuck in his oesophagus. We took him to children’s A& E and we were seen by a nurse immediately, followed shortly after by doctors. He was really poorly so they moved him to the resus room for safety. They monitored him very closely until he was seen by an ENT doctor. He had a x ray and was taken to theatres to have it removed under a general anaesthetic. Following this he was admitted to the surgical ward and after a short period of observation he was discharged. Thankfully he is absolutely fine, which is all thanks to the fantastic staff. Throughout this we felt he received consistently excellent care from all every member of staff we came across. They were so good with him and us. We were obviously terrified and we were kept involved throughout, with everyone taking time to reassure and explain everything to us. Rachel the A& E nurse comforted me when I was upset when he went into theatres   for which I am extremely grateful.

Dear Elisa Abdn

It sounds like you had a bit of an ordeal with your son and I am really pleased to hear that he is fine following his visit to the hospital.

I am also glad that you all got the support needed throughout you stay and will ensure that your feedback is given to all the staff involved which I am sure they will be delighted to receive.
