"Pallion walk in center"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency

After struggling with pain in my hand for over a week and not being able to get an apt with the gp the pain was so much I attended the walk in centre hoping that someone would at least examine my hand which was swollen and very painful and at least spare 5 mins to give me some advice on what to do or be able to assess if it was a sprain or needed an x ray .

After waiting over an hour and half to be triaged i was summoned unto a small room with a nurse and hca (who proceeded to sit on the bed) to be told they wouldn't see me as I couldn't say how I had hurt my hand and therefore it was not a trauma! The nurse was very rude and said i should be happy as probably wouldn't have to wait as long to see my GP! I left no further forward still in pain and still unable to get an apt with my gp! I would not recommend this service to anyone I am a nurse myself and could not believe the lack of care and professionalism being demonstrated the staff need to be reminded that they have a Code of Conduct that they clearly disregarded with myself and others I observed while waiting. The reception staff were the only ones to display any care to the patients some of whom were clearly very unwell and distressed .

I'm very sorry to hear that you felt the care you received at the urgent care centre fell below the high levels that we set ourselves. Unfortunately if we are busy there is sometimes a wait to be triaged as we need to prioritised patients that are the most unwell. Your GP should be able to help with minor injuries, but I do apologise for any upset caused and if you would like to discuss this with us further you can contact our Help and Advice Service on the details below.
