"Thanks from the bottom of my heart"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital

(as a service user),

I would just like to thanks from the bottom of my heart the care I have received since having my little girl. A few days after I gave birth I began to feel overwhelmed and severely depressed and when I mentioned this to my midwife a care plan was put in place almost immediately. I felt the lowest I have ever felt at a time when I wanted to enjoy my little girl. Through the care I received from my midwife Lucy At Albyn Medical practice, to my health visitor Wendy who checks in on me every couple of weeks, and my community mental health nurse Stuart who I also see every couple of weeks I feel like I am really getting a grip of my post natal depression. They also referred me to a perinatal mental health midwife Shona who has provided a godsend! She really validated my feelings and helped me see there would be light at the end of the tunnel. The advice she gives is second to none as she understands the midwifery aspect as well as mental health side. I would whole heartedly recommend this service. I really feel I have been well looked after by all care providers since having my little girl and I honestly can’t thank them enough.

I would also like to say a huge thank you to the student midwife who delivered my baby. After a difficult pregnancy and difficult period post pregnancy I actually look back at the birth of my little girl as a positive and empowering one and that was mainly thanks to Claire. As a person who already suffered from anxiety, I found Claire to be a calming force who really helped me breathe and get through my labour. I couldn’t have done it without her and she was right there with me every step of the way. She showed no judgement - she was just there for me and my baby and made me feel like there was no one else in the room with us. I think back to my labour fondly which I am so grateful for. Claire I hope you realise how much you had an impact on me and my experience of childbirth. You truly are amazing - thank you.
