"Lack of sensitive care for my son's broken leg"

About: Nevill Hall Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a relative),

In may last year my son had broken his leg while out quad biking, obviously in extreme pain we waited in A+E for two hours. my son by this time was at breaking point being only 10yrs old this was a very frightening experience.

We were called in and an x-ray confirmed both bones were broken. We were then taken back to the cubicle so his trousers could be taken off for plastering. I asked the nurses to cut my sons trousers off, as he was in extreme pain. They continued to pull them off, while huffing and puffing, as my son screamed in agony. The word angry does not cover how i felt. He is a 10yr old child! This lack of empathy continued as the two nurses plasterd my sons leg. He was given that much gas and air that he passed out, no doubt this was given because they wanted him to "shhhh" as the one nurse said repeatedly.

My son is now scared of hospitals and no doubt will never forget his trip to Nevil Hall!
